【実施報告】《会員限定》特別ウェビナー「テンプル大学ジャパンキャンパス新学長(JAFSA理事)による『日本の教育機関の国際化に関する考察』」(2020/11/25 via Zoom)
2020年度はコロナ禍により、国際教育交流の現場は多大な影響を受けていますが、JAFSAは各種の「ウェビナー」を会員限定で緊急に企画・実施し、物理的な行き来が制限されている中でも、会員の皆様方が国際教育交流に関する情報収集・考察ができるよう場の提供に努めています。
11月は、JAFSA理事校の一つである「テンプル大学ジャパンキャンパス」の新学長に、2020年9月に就任された「マシュー・ウィルソン氏」をお迎えし、アメリカ、日本、韓国、中国、ベトナム等諸外国と国際プログラムを提携し、アメリカの大学で学長を経験してこられたご自身の経験をもとに、『日本の大学の国際化』について実践的なお話をしていただきました。以下、その報告です。

[Webinar Abstract]
Through the eyes of a university president at institutions in the U.S. (Ohio and Missouri) and the current head of the Japan campus of Temple University, Matt Wilson has discussed ways in which education could be internationalized in Japan as well as methods whereby Japanese institutions could work together with foreign universities.
In recent years, globalization has triggered unprecedented levels of societal change ranging from the economy to technology to politics to the environment and more.
On an international scale, the ways that we communicate, interact, and do business differ significantly from the past. In fact, the accelerated flow of information around the world combined with advances in technology and transportation have enhanced the impact of globalization and need for multiculturalism.
COVID-19 will naturally impact this even more.
Japan will continue to be significantly impacted by globalization and multiculturalism. Organizations will continue to engage in cross-border trade.
These organizations together with their employees, will continue to need to understand, adapt, and adjust to the global economy.
Individually, there is a growing need to know more about the world and embrace the concept of internationalization.
Given the rapid pace of globalization and its impact on both a local and broad scale, it is critical for university students and graduates to gain a greater understanding and embrace a global context for ideas, perspectives, and experiences.
College students and graduates must navigate a world increasingly without borders.
Dr. Wilson has discussed how universities in Japan could help present their students for these challenges.
